CZOLGOSZ -- Liberation, CD Let me take a guess...Czolgosz really like Anti-Falg, Propaghandi $ Blanks 77. Hmmmm...and I guess flipping the bird in your group shot passes for anarchy these days. So FUCKING predictable! WHile they're attacking hipsters with "Style Over Substance," they ought to step out of their glass house and look into the mirror. Tell me, what do you hope to accomplish by attacking pacifists? Jack asses. For the record guys, the Sandinistas are now just as corrupt, if not more so, than the regime they fought against nearly 20 years ago. Failed revolutionary movements that have become what they once despised are not the best examples in politicizing and empowering others. Possibly another Politik Punk posture, possibly an honest but unfocused unit, maybe Czolgosz will figure out with their next record. (GS) Punk Planet # 48 Mar/Apr 2002

CZOLGOSZ

Liberation

The style is punk rock -- burping out the three-cord-lifestyle in a very polite manner. Reminding me of almost any Unseen song or the early stuff of Rancid, the music makes me want to spaz like Iggy Pop and scream like the guy from Pantera. But the lyrics are another story. I crave political punk because it challenges the system of suburbia and that averge Joe in the suit. "Proud Americans" though, pisses me off because I think they have no right talking about how America "raped" other countries. I imagine them sitting in their rich parent's house with food in the fridge while I site here in my family's one-bedroom apartment with a kitchen the size of a broom closet.

Czolgosz' music is worthwhile but when they start most of their songs in a different language it just flaunts that they were born in the suburbs and that their parent's influence of multiculturism was their second hand smoke. In couple of years I think Czolgosz will understand that they were posers and in their realization they will stumble upon a bigger thruth.

CZOLGOSZ

Guernica

My wife happened to catch these screamy hotheads on public access TV last week, which prompted her to drag me out of the office to watch.

"Why would anybody sound like this on purpose?" she innocently asked.

"Well, I think it's 'cause they're anarchists," I guessed. She flipped the channel and shrugged.

"Yeah, well--then anarchy sucks."

No wonder I married this chick. Her logic is impeccable. Czolgosz named themselves after the Emma-Goldmanworshipping nut that shot McKinley back in 1901. With names like Matctzy (Bass) and Czkelzler (Guitar), I'm guessing they're not originally from Boston, unless those are just some complicated punk aliases. They sound like a very early hardcore band, like the Drongos, or Dead Kennedy's, somethin' like that. They've got a song that says "Fuck Bush" over and over, in exactly the same tuneless, yelping way bands used to scream "Fuck Reagan" 20 years ago. They also appear to be magling "Danny Boy" at some point, too. Oh, and they don't like Fascists, and spend 15 tracks worth of flailing thrashpunk to tell you this. Well, no fuckin' duh Czolgosz, Nobody likes fascists. But hey, thanks for battering my ears like an angry mondey about it for half an hour, though.

Czolgosz "Guernica" CD No matter how I many times I hear these guys studio stuff, I just can't get into it. Political Punk that's intanse and serious as a heart attack. Jello would be proud. I'm a big fan of their live sets but, their records dont it for me. I guess they are touring Europe soon so people must be liking this, I'm just not one of them. (P) FNS #13 Sep 03

(also from FNS #13, selection of the live reveiw of the 11.Aug.03 gig at All Asia cafe withThe Profits, Czolgolz and the Knox )

...I'm not a big fan of Czolgolz's recorded material, but I'm a fan of them live. They put on a good, energized set and fill the in-between song silences with some political type preaching. I would normally find that kind of stuff annoying, but somehow it was tolerable. Lots of energy and there is nothing like a half-in-the-bag singer talking shit about the US, President Bush and other world events....

And a review of the early Pre "Czolgosz" days...

FUCTOOBS/HIPPIEHUNGCHRIST Historectome 19 songs

High energy snotty punk rants that are so lo-fi you almost don't notice how trite most of them are, and vise versa. (Butch) Make the Crass circa "Feeding of the 5000" come off like Mantovani at his most cornball. Makes early fast product/mutant pop singles like "Never been in a riot" and "32 Weeks" sound as slick as Liberace's pecker. Pass. (Brenda) 2 Stars (poor)

But still two starts not one!

Czolgosz: Guernica - Rodent Popsicle Records (by Houdy, 1.9. 2003)

Kromě náboje a rychlosti si z něj kapela místy vypůjčuje bicí a téměř pořád i zvuk kytary.

Nové album Guernica otevírá rychlá vypalovačka "No War But the Class War", kde kapela bez obalu předvede to nejlepší co umí a která vám okamžitě nakope zadek a bez milosti přinutí poslechnout si (nejednou) celé album.

Refrény "antifascist", "fuck BUSH", nebo "there is a class war it is called poverty" (zuří třídní válka, jmenuje se chudoba) si budete zítra pozpěvovat v tramvaji.
